School Board highlights Teacher Appreciation Week, SHS update, and accepts large band donation

The Stanwood-Camano School Board recognized Teacher Appreciation Week, reviewed finances, and heard a Stanwood High School update during its regular meeting on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

Superintendent Ryan Ovenell presented donations and led a recognition of Teacher Appreciation Week, observed May 4-8, 2026.

Principal Mike Washington provided a data update from Stanwood High School, highlighting progress connected to the school’s improvement efforts.

Executive Director of Business Services Ruth Floyd presented the March Financial Report.

The board also received seven donations:

  • $241.99 from Callie Darland in support of the art program at Utsalady Elementary School.

  • $611.70 from the Cedarhome Elementary PTO to cover the transportation costs for the Cedarhome Elementary School field trip to the Imagine Childen’s Museum.

  • $717.75 from the Twin CIty Elementary PTA to cover the transportation costs for the Twin City Elementary School field trips to the North County Fire Station and the Stillaguamish Cultural Center.

  • $2,099.19 from the Stanwood-Camano Area Foundation (SCAF) to purchase novel study sets and chapter books for Second Grade Readers at Utasalady Elementary School.  

  • $814.08 from the Stanwood-Camano Area Foundation (SCAF) to purchase Character Development Program materials to support classroom behavior at Port Susan Middle School.

  • $1,998.76 from the Stanwood-Camano Area Foundation (SCAF) to purchase Gross Motor Kits to support Special Education in Stanwood-Camano elementary schools.

  • A donation of band instruments and equipment from the Stanwood Band Booster Club in support of the Stanwood High School Band, valued at $42,606.42. 

One citizens spoke during public comment.

The board’s next regular business meeting is at 6 p.m. on May 19. All meetings take place in the boardroom at the Stanwood-Camano School District Administration & Resource Center, 26920 Pioneer Highway, Stanwood. You can sign up for public comment for regular board meetings HERE.
