In an effort to ensure equitable access to quality school supplies and relieve financial burdens for families, the Stanwood-Camano School District will provide needed supplies to all elementary school students in grades K-5 for the 2022-23 school year, Superintendent Dr. Deborah Rumbaugh announced today.

“This will help our elementary students to get off to the best possible start for the new school year without families worrying about buying the right notebook or markers,” Rumbaugh said. “We want their focus to solely be on returning to school on September 1 and learning.”

Grade-specific school supplies will be distributed during the first week of school and will be replenished throughout the school year. Schools will have supplies for new students who enroll during the school year.

The Stanwood Elementary PT0 has already generously donated supplies for students at their school and the Twin City Elementary PTA has donated supplies to classrooms there. Recognizing this, the District will work with each PTA to offset other expenses up to the amount spent on supplies. In addition, community drives are being held for supplies to supplement those that will now be provided by the district.

“We are incredibly grateful to our PTAs and our Stanwood-Camano community partners for their support of our students through these annual supply drives and events,” Rumbaugh said. “Our decision to provide basic school supplies for all elementary students does not take away the need for many families for such items as backpacks or clothing.”

The Stanwood-Camano School District employs three Student Support Advocates (SSA) to help students and families get connected to needed resources by calling the SSA line at 360-629-1480. This is a message line only, so please leave a detailed message with your name, need, and phone number, and one of the SSAs will return your phone call promptly.

The Caring Place will host its 10th annual Back to School Giveaway on August 16, 17, and 18 by appointment only. Call 360-842-9518 for information. New View Church will host its “I Heart Stanwood” event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on August 20, including free clothing and haircuts.
